Adelaide Cabaret Festival: Stage Whispers Q&A- Sherie Rene Scott!

By:

On June 22 and 23, Broadway favorite Sherie Rene Scott will boldly step off the Broadway stage and into your heart for a rare, intimate appearance at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. This brand new show of eclectic music and musings will feature songs by David Byrne, Harold Arlen, Toots and the Maytals, Jason Robert Brown and Yusef (the guy formerly known as Cat Stevens).

BroadwayWorld caught up with the Broadway starlet for a quick Q&A before her big Australian concerts:

When did you know that you wanted to perform for the rest of your life?

Performing for the rest of my life would be exhausting, even if I took equity breaks, so I only do it sometimes. And I guess I have commitment issues because I enjoy creating but being a 'performer' can be a little annoying, both to myself and others. So maybe I'm more 'pro former' than 'pre former'. Which is also annoying.

If you could revisit one part that you've played in your career for just one night, which would it be and why?

I played the role of the observer. I've learned a lot from that. One thing i learned is don't go back.

Who are some performers that have influenced/inspired you?

Sarah Vaughn. John Lithgow, Lily Taylor, the Beatles, Tracy Letts, Joseph Campbell, Elenora Duse, and Rick, a guy from Sing Sing.

Some of Scott's most acclaimed performances include her work on Everyday Rapture, written by Dick Scanlan and Scott, and directed by Michael Mayer. Everyday Rapture received Tony Award nominations for ‘Best Actress in a Musical’, ‘Best Book’ and ‘Best Musical’, as well as several Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and
Lortel Award nominations.

Other performances include playing Pepe in Lincoln Center’s Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (Drama Desk Nomination), Ursula in Disney’s The Little Mermaid (Outer Critics Circle nomination), John Guare’s Landscape of the Body (Obie Award, Lucille Lortel Award), Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle Award nominations), Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida (Derwent Award), Tommy (OBC), Rent, The Last Five Years (Drama Desk nomination), Debbie Does Dallas, Randy Newman’s Faust, and Kander & Ebb’s Over and Over (Helen Hayes nomination).
