TexARTS to Stage XANADU, 5/10-18

By:

TexARTS presents the tongue-in-cheek Broadway hit Xanadu, based on the 1980 Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly cult classic film and featuring 25 members of the TexARTS Teen Musical Theatre Academy. This hilarious, roller-skating, musical plays a two-week engagement at the Kam & James Morris Theatre on May 10-11 and 17-18 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Xanadu follows the journey of a beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach on a quest to inspire a young beach-boy artist, Sonny, to achieve his greatest artistic creation - the first ROLLER DISCO! The disco-driven, roller adventure features the 80's pop hits, "Magic," "All Over The World," "Suddenly," "I'm Alive," "Evil Woman," "Have You Never Been Mellow" and of course, "Xanadu."

This outlandish production is brought to the stage by the creative team of director Keenah Armitage (B'way's Jesus Christ Superstar, Aida), musical director Nissa Kahle, and choreographer Kiira Schmidt. Schmidt performed on Broadway in the recent revival of Follies and served as an assistant choreographer on NBC's Smash.

The cast includes Alanna Anderson, Faith Baxter, Kate Brimmer, Victoria Brown, Peyton Calhoon, Reilly Cox, Caroline Gilmore, Christina Harbison, Hunter Howell, Madeline McKowen, Jade Milam, Ashley Novit, Kristen, Novit, Emma Parsons, Dominick Pezulich, Emily Powell, Macy Rex, Laurel Rothamel, Kyle Stanfield, Gracee Street, Kaitlin Street, Hayley Trittin, Jarod Watters, Michael Wheeler and Ashlyn Whiteside.

All performances will be held at the Kam & James Morris Theatre at TexARTS (2300 Lohman's Spur, Suite #160, Lakeway, TX). All ages are welcome. Tickets for reserved seating are $15 and are available online at www.tex-arts.org or by calling the TexARTS Box Office at512-852-9079 x101.

TexARTS is a nonprofit performing and visual arts organization that offers year-round classes and summer camps in acting, voice, visual arts and dance as well as completely staged youth and professional productions. For more information about TexARTS, visit tex-arts.org.
