RUTHLESS! The Stage Mother Of All Musical Comedies Comes to City Theatre Austin Image

The summer forecast calls for wild fun, over the top laughs, and "take no prisoners" comedy...and it's all thanks to the mother and daughter, song and dance, team of Tina and Judy Denmark. In June, The City Theatre Company is thrilled to present the award-winning, off-Broadway triumph Ruthless! The Musical, where no dream too big - or back too small to stab - can stop you from becoming a star.

"Watch your back, Matilda...Tina Denmark's coming to town!"

Our story begins with little eight-year-old Tina who knows she was born to play Pippi Longstocking in her third-grade musical and will do anything to win the part. But when Judy, Tina's adoptive mother, discovers that her birth mother was a famous actress, she decides that she should be famous as well, and becomes the Broadway diva she always meant to be. Will they both become stars? Will they kill each other - and everyone around them - as they sing, dance, and claw their way to the top? Spoofing such films and musicals as Mommie Dearest, All About Eve, Gypsy, and Mame, lots of songs, dancing, laughs, farce, and comedy abound!

The show stars Michelle Cheney, Jessica Cohen, and Robert Cross, and features Susan Taylor, Michelle Malia, and Kelsey Kimble. City Theatre is excited to welcome back the dynamic duo of Director Jim Lindsay and Choreographer Laura Lund, who gave us the summer hits Nunsense, and the award-winning Pageant! Musical Direction is by Austin Kimble, with Costume Design by Scout Gutzmerson and Wig/Makeup Design by Christina Little-Manley. Written by Joel Paley and Marvin Laird, the New York musical hit opened in 1992, at The Players Theatre, and garnered rave reviews during its long Off-Broadway run.

The City Theatre Company is excited to be celebrating its 12th anniversary season of live theatre entertainment in Austin. CTC is an Austin-based, not-for-profit arts organization and is sponsored in part by the Austin Creative Alliance and the Austin Cultural Arts Division. Founded in 2006, the company has been recognized by the Austin Critics Table Awards, the B. Iden Payne Awards, the Central Texas Excellence in Theatre Awards, Austin Live Theatre, and has twice been voted "Best Theatre Company" by Austin American-Statesman's Austin 360. CTC is dedicated in providing quality theatrical experiences and entertainment for Austin artists and its community.
