Legendary Tenor Jose Carreras performs at Bass Concert Hall 6/19

Texas Performing Arts presents an evening with world-renowned Spanish Catalan tenor José Carreras in recital with pianist Lorenzo Bavai on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Bass Concert Hall. Born in Barcelona, Carreras studied music in his hometown and started his professional career in the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona in NABUCCO and LUCREZIA BORGIA. He gained fame internationally as one of the Three Tenors along with Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti in a series of mass concerts that ran from 1990 to 2003.

Carreras has collaborated with the most renowned orchestra conductors including Herbert von Karajan, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Chailly, Colin Davis and Giuseppe Sinopoli, plus many more. His repertoire includes over sixty operas, including Andrea Chenier, La Bohème, Tosca, Werther, Don Carlo, Carmen, La Forza del Destino, I Pagliacci, L'Elisir d'Amore and Un Ballo in Maschera. He has also performed as the leading role in several operatic films for television, cinema and video. Additionally, Carreras has been recognized with numerous national and international prizes and distinctions including a Grammy Award.

He is also known for his humanitarian work as the president of the José Carreras International Leukemia Foundation (La Fundació Internacional Josep Carreras per a la Lluita contra la Leucèmia), which he established following his own recovery from the disease in 1988.
