Batsheva Dance Company performs at Bass Concert Hall, 3/20
Texas Performing Arts welcomes Israel's Batsheva Dance Company to Bass Concert Hall, Tuesday, March 20. Batsheva, known for their revolutionary movement language Gaga, will perform their work Max, which features combinations of classical, modern, and contemporary dance forms.
Martha Graham and Baroness Batsheva de Rothschild, from whom the company gets their name, originally founded Batsheva Dance Company in 1964. In combination with their junior Batsheva Ensemble, the two companies present over 250 performances internationally every year.
In order to captivate such juxtaposed emotions, Batsheva dancers train daily in Gaga, an artistic dance form developed by Artistic Director Ohad Naharin. Their extensive training in Gaga encourages the dancers to continually push artistic boundaries, creating new movement possibilities and awakening dynamic sensitivity.
Max, an original work by Naharin, is hailed as a journey into the human spirit. Through dance and intimate movement, Max embodies a primal expression of pain and happiness, the solitude of the individual, the essence of the couple, the essence of a team, and of society as a whole.
