By: Kelsey Denette
Celebrate the 100th anniversary of Tennessee Williams' birth with his 1961 Broadway hit "The Night of the Iguana," presented by Theater Emory at the Mary Gray Munroe Theater April 5 – 15.
The year is 1940 and a dissolute minister, fugitive from his turbulent past, arrives at the Costa Verde Hotel near Acapulco, Mexico. A tropical storm brewing up the coast, a political storm looming in Europe, and the passions of the characters meet head-on in Williams' powerful and savagely funny play. The professional cast includes familiar local favorites Agnes Harty, Robin Bloodworth, and Tim McDonough alongside Emory student actors. The production is directed by Janice Akers.Set design by Sara Culpepper; light design by Robert Turner; costumes by Sydney Roberts; and sound design by Elizabeth Waldman.Theater Emory's "The Night of the Iguana" opens at the Mary Gray Munroe Theater in the Dobbs University Center on Emory's campus. The show runs April 5-7 and 11-14 at 7 p.m. and April 15 at 2 p.m. There is no matinee performance on Sunday, April 8.
