THE LAST CARGO CULT Opens at Alliance Theatre, 3/19
THE LAST CARGO CULT will open at Atlanta's ALLIANCE THEATRE on March 19th and run through April 11th. The show will be performed by its creator Mike Daisey under the direction of Jean-Michele Gregory.
Cargo cult: A religious practice focused on obtaining the wealth, power, and goods of another culture through rituals and magical thinking. One culture remains on a remote island in the South Pacific. Another struggles to maintain its foothold hold in America. Which can survive longer?
In nationally acclaimed solo performer Mike Daisey's searing comic monologue, the source of America's financial crisis and the faith of a group of islanders in the Vanuatu Islands turn out not to be as unrelated as you'd expect.
Since 1968, the Alliance has served as Atlanta's foremost theater, working within the local, national, and international communities to become one of the leading regional theatres in America. From its inaugural presentation of King Arthur to its Broadway-bound premiere production of THE COLOR PURPLE, the Alliance consistently has advanced the art of theater. Over the years, the Alliance has produced more than 50 world premieres, bringing the world's best resources to Atlanta in one of the nation's finest venues.
