Sketchworks Comedy Parodies GREASE in New Musical VAPE

Sketchworks Comedy, Atlanta's award-winning live sketch comedy company, presents a musical parody of "Grease" entitled "Vape," Fri. and Sat. nights, Sept. 21, 22 and 28, 29, 2018. Performances start at 8 p.m. (house opens at 7:30 p.m.) at Village Theatre.

"Several of our cast saw 'Grease' together at Serenbe last year and we had so much fun watching it. Afterward, we all agreed the plot and the misogyny inherent in the show were ripe for parody," said director Casey Holloway, who will also play the role of food-obsessed Jan. "We've pulled together as a company to create this show and it's going to be so much fun for audiences. That's why we say, 'nostalgia is guaranteed.'"

The funniest parody musical around, "Vape" brings a fresh comedic take on the classic musical "Grease" by looking at it through a millennial lens while poking fun at the abrupt plot points and rapey-misogyny of the beloved original. Wop ba-ba lu-mop and wop bam boom!

Sketchworks Comedy will be adding "Vape" shows at PULP and The Pit Loft in New York in 2019, as well as other venues and cities.

Founded in 2001, Sketchworks Comedy features some of Atlanta's top working comedy professionals. Sketchworks Comedy's current cast and alumni have gone on to write for network TV shows and perform in film, stage, and television productions. As opposed to unscripted improv, Sketchworks Comedy deals in short, written sketches and films, and celebrates comedy writers every bit as much as comic actors. The format of a Sketchworks Comedy show is similar to Saturday Night Live or MadTV. Regular shows consist of one sketch after another with full set and costume changes between each sketch. Shows (excluding kid and teen shows) are not generally suitable for children under 16, and people with no sense of humor. Sketchworks Comedy also conducts classes in writing, acting and improvisational comedy. For more information on shows and classes, visit http://www.sketchworkscomedy.com.

Vape tickets are $18 at the door, $15 online and can be purchased HERE. If five tickets are purchased in advance, the buyer gets a free bottle of wine at the show. Email info@sketchworkscomedy.com about group rates. Sketchworks Comedy can accommodate group events before the shows in a dedicated space near the stage. Photos and meetings with the cast can also be arranged before showtime.
