Photo Flash: Atlanta's Capitol City Opera Company to Open 17-18 Season with Rising Stars
Atlanta's Capitol City Opera will launch its 2017-18 season on Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18 at 8 p.m. with Rising Stars, a new staged concert format designed to highlight more than a dozen of the Atlanta-area's most promising young voices. All of the singers are based in Atlanta, and are exceptional talents pursuing a career in singing.
Rising Stars will include scenes from popular opera blockbusters such as Don Giovanni, La traviata, Rigoletto, Carmen, and Porgy and Bess, as well as lesser-known operas that have not been regularly seen on Atlanta stages such as Lakmé, L'arlesiana, Cendrillon, and Granada. The program also highlights a young director, Daniel Weisman, who will be staging the scenes. He will be fully-utilizing the intimate, theatre-in-the-round space at theUnitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta in which the audience surrounds the stage, and can see the performances from multiple angles.
Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased online at ccityopera.org.
