Out of Box Theatre to Stage THE CREDEAUX CANVAS This August

By:

Award-winning Atlanta playwright and director Topher Payne returns to Out of Box Theatre to direct Keith Bunin's critically-acclaimed play The Credeaux Canvas, a "wry and romantic tale of ambition, friendship, and betrayal" (The New York Times). Three disaffected twenty-somethings, struggling artists, conspire to swindle a wealthy art collector by forging a painting and passing it off as a rare piece of work by the famed painter Jean-Paul Credeaux.

When a prominent art dealer dies, his son Jamie (Matthew Busch) learns that he has been disinherited and neither his roommate Winston (Daniel Carter Brown) nor his girlfriend Amelia (Emily Sams) appear to be able to pull him out of his depression. It isn't until Jamie runs into one of this father's most important art collectors, Tess (Mary K. Shaw), that he finds inspiration in a grand plan to claw his way back out of poverty.

Jamie coaxes his roommate Winston into inventing and creating a forgery of one of famed painter Jean-Paul Credeaux's nude paintings. In need of a model, Jamie convinces Amelia to participate in the scheme by modeling for Winston. In light of the new roles they each take on, their relationships start to shift and change as their new desires and needs become apparent. It is the entry of Tess into their lives, though, that ultimately will leave everything changed and no one unscathed.

Previously seen together in House of Yes at Out of Box Theatre, the apparent familiarity and easy intimacy between Matthew Busch, Emily Sams, and Daniel Carter Brown lends an undeniable authenticity to their performance as the masterminds behind the art and artifice.

The Credeaux Canvas by Keith Bunin does feature mature content in the form of nudity in the context of artistic modeling. Audience members under 18 will not be admitted to this show.

Keith Bunin's The Credeaux Canvas opens August 5 and runs through August 20 with Thursday, Friday, andSaturday shows at 8:00 PM and Sunday matinees at 3:00 PM. Out of Box Theatre is a 501(c)3 non-profit professional theatre located just outside the perimeter in the Artisan Resource Center at 585 Cobb Parkway S, Marietta, GA 30060. Regular season tickets are $17-$25 and can be purchased online at www.outofboxtheatre.com or by calling the box office at 678-653-4605.
