Out of Box Theatre to Present THE LIBRARY

By:

Partly inspired by the 1999 shootings at Columbine High School in Colorado, The Library focuses on the aftermath of a deadly school shooting. Far from being a one-sided play about gun control or religion, Burns' focus lands squarely on the media, the community, and society at large and the way that we take hold of a story in the wake of a catastrophic event. In its review of Burns' play, TheaterMania.com said, "Scott Z. Burns delivers a smart and probing drama with an aggressive calmness. You'll leave The Library angry for all the right reasons."

Lauren Megan plays Caitlin Gabriel, a victim of a shooting at her high school, who has also been accused of causing the deaths of several classmates. The story swirls around in the media, gaining a foothold that Caitlyn can't dislodge. She struggles to convince people of her innocence- her parents, the authorities, community leaders- but the opposition is just too strong. Even her fractured family (Jeffrey Bigger and Stacy Fondren King) find it difficult to put their trust in her.

In an effort to make sense of the senseless violence perpetrated by a disturbed young man, Caitlin has become an easy scapegoat to blame for the promising lives ended too soon. The Library at Out of Box Theatre also features Emily Tyrybon, Ian Coulter, A. Julian Verner, Stephen Ray DeVillers, and Mary Saville.

The Library will be presented in the round, a nod to the way that these stories and events become central to our experience. The central nature of the action lends the audience the ability to examine the escalating events from ever-changing angles.

Out of Box brings this bold and chilling regional premiere to its stage. Written by acclaimed writer Scott Z. Burns (Side Effects, Contagion, The Bourne Ultimatum), The Library asks us to examine our relationship to the truth and the lies that claim to heal us.

The Library by Scott Z. Burns runs March 4-19, 2016 Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8PM, Sunday February 14 at 3 PM. Out of Box Theatre is located in the Artisan Resource Center at 585 Cobb Parkway South, Marietta, GA 30060. Tickets are $17-$25 and can be purchased online at www.outofboxtheatre.com or by calling the box office at 678-653-4605.
