Legacy Brings Back The Church Basement Ladies With The Holiday Hit, AWAY IN THE BASEMENT

The hilarious holiday hit, Away in the Basement: a Church Basement Ladies Christmas is opening at The Legacy Theatre! This charming and quirky musical opens November 16th and runs through December 16th.

The ladies are serving it up again, this time around it's an all-new holiday show. Our lovable ladies take us back to 1959 and the day of a potentially disastrous Sunday School Christmas Program. With holiday preparations and love in the air, life inside and outside the basement always has surprises in store for them. Can they once again be counted on to step in and save the day?

Away in the Basement: A Church Basement Ladies Christmas is the third installment in the highly successful musical series, Church Basement Ladies. The music was composed by Drew Jansen, and the book was written by Greta Grosch. The Church Basement Ladies musicals are inspired by the books of author/humorists Janet Letnes Martin and Suzann Nelson including the bestseller, Growing Up Lutheran. After opening in 2005, audiences instantly fell in love with the Church Basement Ladies and the shows have been hits all over the country.

This production will be directed by Mark Smith. Away in the Basement has something for the whole family. It is funny, wholesome and will put you in the holiday spirit," says Smith. "The original Church Basement Ladies was a huge hit with our audiences two years ago, and I know they will love this musical too." The show is choreographed by Bethany Smith and Music Directed by Jodi Cotton. Scenic Design is by Phil Male, Lighting Design by Bryan Rosengrant and Sound Design by Jason Polhemus.

"We are very excited to do another Church Basement Ladies show," says Executive Producer and Choreographer, Bethany Smith. "The show is really charming and we are glad to have several of the Church Basement Ladies cast back for this show too!" Returning to reprise their roles are Katie Patterson as "Karin" (also seen recently in Godspell and Beauty & the Beast), Autumn O'Ryan as "Vivian", and Jeremy Skidmore as "The Pastor". Making their Legacy debuts are Shelby Terrell as "Beverly" and Bonner Church as "Mavis".

The Legacy's thirteenth season continues with Always Patsy Cline, The Bridges of Madison County, and Disney's Newsies. Season subscriptions and individual tickets are on sale now. 3-show gift certificates make great holiday gifts and are available for purchase through the Legacy box office and online.
