Atlanta Lyric Theatre Artistic Director and General Manager Brandt Blocker announced today that Alan Kilpatrick, a local award-winning actor and director, will assume the position of associate artistic director for the 31-year-old musical theatre company. In addition to Kilpatrick, Daniel Pattillo has been hired as the company's new full-time technical director and Amy McGuire, current box office manager, has been promoted to business and administrative manager.

"This is a very exciting announcement for Atlanta Lyric Theatre," said Blocker.  "Alan is one of the most respected members of the Atlanta theatre community.  He has been an artistic partner with The Lyric since 2008, so his transition to associate artistic director is a natural progression.  Alan's creativity, integrity, and genuine leadership will benefit The Lyric for years to come."

A graduate of Auburn University, Kilpatrick came to Atlanta as an apprentice and intern at the Tony Award-wining ALLIANCE THEATRE under the leadership of former Artistic Director FrEd Chappel.  Early in his career, Kilpatrick complimented his onstage appearances by working with the Fulton County School System and The Heritage School in Newnan, GA.  Named the best local actor by Atlanta Magazine and recognized twice by the Suzi Bass Awards, Atlanta's premier award which recognizes excellence in local professional theatre, Kilpatrick was recently bestowed the Cobb County Ovation Award for excellence in the arts.  Kilpatrick has a long association as an actor, director and teaching guest artist with the Gainesville Theatre Alliance, The Combined theatre departments of Gainesville State University and Brenau University.  During a five-year term as director of education and artistic associate with Marietta's Theatre in the Square, Kilpatrick served on advisory boards for Marietta City School's Sawyer Road Elementary, Pope High School, and Woods Wilkins Center.  For Woods Wilkins Center, he helped secure funds to provide acting classes for at-risk students.  He also developed the THEATRE U! Program, a seminar designed to meet the needs of college students, and organized classes and performances for local senior citizens.  Kilpatrick has appeared in The Lyric's productions of "Anything Goes," "The Will Rogers Follies," "Hairspray," and "The Music Man," and has directed The Lyric's productions of "The It Girl" and "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum."

Blocker and The Lyric also announced today that Daniel Pattillo, a freelance scenic carpenter, electrician and sound engineer for many local theatres, has been hired as the company's full-time technical director.  Pattillo is a 2008 graduate of Columbus State University with a BFA in theatre design and technology.
Amy McGuire, The Lyric's current box office manager, has been promoted to the position of business and administrative manager.  McGuire has been with The Lyric since 2007 and will continue to oversee all box office matters for the company.

Kilpatrick, Pattillo and McGuire join Blocker, who signed an exclusive three-year agreement in 2010 to remain as artistic director and general manager, Director of Development Amy Davis, and Director of Marketing and Community Relations Dianne Butler as the full-time staff of Atlanta Lyric Theatre.
