GTA Readies To Mount An Epic Journey With THE ODYSSEY Gainesville Theatre Alliance sends audiences on an extraordinary adventure with season finale, The Odyssey

Based on the epic poem by Homer and adapted for the stage by the Tony Award winning director Mary Zimmerman, The Odyssey tells the story of Odysseus, a hero from the fall of Troy and his ten year journey home to his wife. His journey is anything but dull as he is beleaguered by monsters and Greek gods and goddesses. Homer's epic poem has been adapted for the stage by Mary Zimmerman, who GTA's audiences might remember from her enthralling adaptation of Ovid's Metamorphoses in 2007. The production is directed by Emmy-winning GTA alumnus, Michael Granberry. Tickets for The Odyssey are already 85% sold for the whole run of the show, April 10-21.

The Gainesville Theatre Alliance, now in its 39th season, is the nationally acclaimed collaboration of the University of North Georgia, Brenau University, theatre professionals and the North Georgia community.

GTA patrons who want to whet their appetites for the creative wizardry in store are invited to a free Stage Tour at 6:00pm, March 27, at UNG-Gainesville's Ed Cabell Theatre to see how Michael's vision for this huge story is taking shape, and how set, costume and lighting design elements are working to make that vision happen on stage. Visitors that night will get to see one scene in rehearsal.

Adventurers who purchase tickets will set sail at UNG-Gainesville's Ed Cabell Theatre at 7:30pm April 10-14 and 17-21 and at 2:30pm April 15 & 21. Ticket prices for the production are $18/$20 for adults, $16-18 for seniors and $12/$14 for students, depending on seat location. Patrons can select and purchase seats on the website, www.gainesvilleTHEATREalliance.org, or call the GTA Box Office at 678-717-3624, Monday through Friday from 10am to 4pm.
