The Emory University Creative Writing program announces the Creative Writing Fellows in Fiction and Poetry for 2013-2015. The new Creative Writing Fellow in Fiction is David Samuel Levinson and Malachi Black is named the Creative Writing Fellow in Poetry.

David Samuel Levinson is the author of the story collection, "Most of Us Are Here Against Our Will" (Viking Penguin, 2005) as well as the forthcoming novel, "Antonia Lively Breaks the Silence" (Algonquin Books, June, 2013). He has been nominated several times for the Pushcart Prize and won an award for fiction in "The Atlantic Monthly." He has received multiple fellowships from Yaddo, the Jentel Foundation, Ledig House, Pouch Cove, the Santa Fe Arts Institute, and the Sewanee Writers' Conference. He holds an M.F.A. in creative writing from The New School.

Malachi Black is the author of "Storm Toward Morning," forthcoming from Copper Canyon Press, and two limited edition chapbooks: "Quarantine" (Argos Books, 2012) and "Echolocation" (Float Press, 2010). His poems have appeared or are forthcoming in journals such as "Poetry," "Boston Review," "Narrative," and "The Iowa Review," and in several recent and forthcoming anthologies, including "The Yale Anthology of the Devotional Lyric" and "Discoveries: New Writing from The Iowa Review." He holds a B.A. in literature from New York University and an M.F.A. in creative writing from the University of Texas at Austin's Michener Center for Writers, and is the recipient of numerous fellowships and awards.

Their two-year terms begin on the first day of class for the new academic year, Wednesday, August 28.

The Creative Writing Fellows program allows young writers with recent masters or doctoral degrees in creative writing to gain teaching experience, as well as time to finish a manuscript and submit it for publication. They teach three workshops per semester. Levinson and Black also will give a joint reading on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, as part of the Creative Writing Program Reading Series.
