The mega-store Mall-Mart is moving in to destroy the small town of Lawrenceburg, and it's up to a rag-tag group of rebels to stop it. This show, a remount of a beloved 2006 Dad's Garage world premiere, is part "Star Wars," part "The Dukes of Hazzard," and all comedy. Mall-Mart stands in for the Death Star, with actors in roles paralleling Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and even Chewbacca. But since this is set in a rural town, not so far away, there's an undeniable country twang... complete with dip, Yoo-Hoos, and Daisy Dukes.

This remount updates the casting with a more inclusive and diverse cast. Who says Luke Skywalker has to be played by a man? Or that only old British guys can play the big roles in an epic story? This newest production of "Lawrenceburg" casts young and diverse performers, reflective of the artists helping make Atlanta an awesome place to create theatre.

"Lawrenceburg" was the first show written and created by Travis Sharp, an ensemble member of Dad's Garage. Since then, Sharp has created other shows for the Dad's Garage stage including: "Song of the Living Dead," "The Change," "Musicals Suck: The Musical," and most recently, "Wicket." Much of Sharp's work riffs on popular culture phenomena (like zombie shows, cheesy American musical theatre, and "Star Wars") and reframes them in new and creative ways. "Lawrenceburg," like Sharp's other plays, finds humor in the tropes of these styles and brings a message of inclusivity and progress through the comedy.
