Feature: THE SANTALAND DIARIES at Horizon Theatre Company

Horizon Theatre Company has been presenting theatre in Atlanta since 1983. The last 19 seasons have included the hit holiday classic THE SANTALAND DIARIES. With adult humor and a non-traditional storyline, who says Horizon won't have this show in the line-up for another two decades?

Since the beginning of THE SANTALAND DIARIES, the lead character of Crumpet has been played by Harold Leaver. This year fans will get a little Christmas surprise, including a new lead by the name of Topher Payne. The Atlanta local is a playwright (Off Broadway's "Perfect Arrangement," "Angry Fags") that has been in several Atlanta productions. Payne has also been nominated for several Suzi Bass Awards with one win.

"Taking on the role of Crumpet in The Santaland Diaries is a bold, thrilling challenge I'm eager to face," says Payne in a press release. "I'll be spicing up this iconic role by creating a new atmosphere while providing the same mischievous, ludicrous behavior that continuously brings new and loyal audiences out to see the show!"

This change in a lead, especially one making a name for himself locally and nationally, is sure to make for an exciting change for an Atlanta staple. Though the actual story (adapted from award-winning satirist David Sedaris' best-selling book "Holidays on Ice") will remain the same, telling the story of Crumpet the elf and his holiday stint working with Macy's.

With direction from Jeff Adler, SANTALAND has two holiday helpers, Enoch King and LaLa Cochran. Make sure to get your tickets soon to see your favorite elves in this hilarious holiday tale.

THE SANTALAND DIARIES will run November 17 - December 31 at Horizon Theatre Company. Seating is general admission, but patrons can upgrade to the VIP experience for an additional $15, which includes reserved seating and a complimentary holiday beverage. Tickets can be purchased online. This show contains mature language and situations. It is not intended for children. Suggested rating is PG14, appropriate for older teens.
