Art in America Editor Gives Public Keynote at Emory, 9/20

Lindsay Pollock, editor of Art in America, presents a public keynote address on Thursday, Sept. 20, 7 p.m. on the Emory campus. The presentation is free and open to the public; and launches the Sept. 20-22 symposium, "Off/Center: Art Writing from the Regions," hosted by the International Association of Art Critics (AICA), Emory University's Visual Arts Department and the Emory College Center for Creativity & the Arts.

Seasoned art reporter and author Pollock was named editor of Art in America in Jan. 2011. She joins the magazine following a distinguished tenure as a contributor to Bloomberg News and the London-based Art Newspaper. Pollock has previously written forARTnews, Art & Auction and the New York Sun. In 2009 she founded an influential blog, "Art Market Views," which provides breaking news and analysis on the art industry. Her biography of pioneering art dealer Edith Halpert, The Girl with the Gallery, was published in 2006 by PublicAffairs.

The symposium, "Off/Center: Art Writing from the Regions," Sept. 20-22 on the Emory campus, is designed for art critics, writers and students. The symposium examines how writers and editors are working to highlight visual art created outside of commercial art centers on a local, national and international level. Advance registration has been extended through September 12; and includes reserved seating at the keynote lecture, the full day symposium, a presentation at the High Museum, a choice of an art tour of Atlanta and a visit to an Atlanta private collection.
