Art and Music Spring Forth On The City Green At CITY SPRINGS LIVE

To commemorate the first anniversary of City Springs, the City of Sandy Springs is launching its public art program along with a free concert series. In less than a year, City Springs is successfully establishing itself as the heart of downtown Sandy Springs.

TGIF will be something to sing about when City Springs Live takes the stage on the City Green in Sandy Springs. This free concert series will fill many Friday nights this summer with music spanning a variety of genres. The first concert celebrates Memorial Day weekend with some red, white and bluegrass courtesy of the Steep Canyon Rangers. Known for touring with comedian/actor/banjoist Steve Martin, the Steep Canyon Rangers are just one of the nationally known acts slated for the series. While this is a free concert series and attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chairs, there will be a limited number of reserved tables available for purchase. Food and drink will be available for purchase. Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. and the music starts at 7:30 p.m.

Arts in the Open

Art and music go together like wine and cheese and to add to the kick-off of the City Green Live series, Art Sandy Springs and the City of Sandy Springs will debut Arts in the Open, a sculpture gallery in the park. Arts in the Open, one of the City's public art initiatives, is a new public sculpture competition created specifically to bring fine art to the parks and public spaces throughout the City of Sandy Springs and to enhance the $229 million, 14-acre City Springs complex opened in May 2018. The theme for this year's sculpture competition is: "Inspired. By Nature." There were 135 submissions with nine finalists chosen.

Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul said, "Artists are inspired by their very nature to be creative and innovative. Likewise, the City of Sandy Springs is inspired to innovate and lead the way in support of the arts."

The unveiling of the nine sculptures will take place just prior to the first City Green Live concert on Friday, May 24, 2019.

City Springs is envisioned as a place for community activity and identity, and its design as a gathering spot for business, commerce and residential contributes to that sense of place desired by the citizens of Sandy Springs. The 14-acre campus features a performing arts center, conference center, green space, residential, retail and municipal offices. Art Sandy Springs (ArtSS) is a 501C3 founded in 2007 to bring public art to Sandy Springs. Past projects include the Playable Art Park, the outdoor sculptures at the library and the mural at Morgan Falls athletic fields. Each year ArtSS produces The Chalk Walk at the Sandy Springs Festival.
