About the Work:

mishiDance: Alongside existing works Standing Still | Still Standing and H(a)unted, mishiDance presents a new work that explores the simultaneously isolated and shared experience of commuting. Inspired by the heavily structured poetry form of villanelles, Standing Still | Still Standing follows one woman's journey to create new identity after coping with loss. H(a)unted, described as "a raw and emotional journey" by Dance Examiner, explores how the different types of ghosts we encounter throughout our lives, literal and figurative, manifest themselves to haunt us.

Sans Limites Dance: in my end is my beginning, choreographed by Diana Pettersen of Sans Limites Dance, continuously grapples with gravity: fighting against it, giving into it, becoming over-powered by it, and, almost inconceivably, re-emerging from it. Resulting explorations of balance and unbalance conjure the physical, mental, and emotional challenges of contending with life's highs and lows. The piece concludes with a harrowing, yet precious solo by a figure that seems to have successfully emerged, for at least a short moment, from the grip of gravity. Shakily, but surely achieving self-possession, this figure embodies ungainliness with an unearthly grace.

Company/ Choreographer Biographies:

mishiDance: Mishi Castroverde began choreographing for Orchesis Dance Group at Columbia University and founded mishiDance upon graduating in 2010. The mission of mishiDance is to engage and inspire audiences by bringing music to life through intricate, dynamic movement. Since its inception, mishiDance has performed at reputable venues throughout New York City, including Ailey Citigroup Theater, Green Space, Symphony Space, Chen Dance Center, Triskelion Arts, and Dixon Place. Mishi has been recognized for her choreography by Pointe Magazine, The Young Choreographer's Festival, Chen Dance Center's newsteps Residency Program, and the Palm Desert International Choreography Competition.

Sans Limites Dance Diana Pettersen -- a Queens, NY native of Puerto Rican, Ecuadorian, Irish and Norwegien decent -- began her formal dance training at Ballet Hispanico de Nueva York, later expanding her knowledge by training with Mark Morris Dance Group, Martha Graham Dance School, Tiffany Mills Company and the staff of the Manhattanville College Dance Department (Peter Pucci, Ara Fitzgerald, Claire Porter, Elizabeth Higgins, Deborah Tacon, Beth Soll and Kathy Posin). She graduated in 2011 with the honor of distinction and a special award for 'Notable Investigations as an Emerging Choreographer'. The summer after graduation, Diana attended SUMAC -- a choreography intensive at Colombia University's Barnard College by Susan Marshall & Company. In 2014, Diana Pettersen was selected to participate in a New York Live Arts Bessie Lab hosted by John Jasperse.

Diana Pettersen founded the NYC-based company Sans Limites Dance (SLD) in 2013 -- provides diverse audiences unique dance experiences by producing the work of rebellious emerging, mid-career and established choreographers in the bi-annual Sans Limites Dance Seasons and Annual Community Garden Dance Festival. To this date, SLD has produced 8 Formal Seasons at the NYC venues of The Secret Theater, The Drilling Company Theater, Theater 54, The Connelly Theater and Hudson Guild Theater -- creating experiences for over 1,000 audience members and opportunities for over 100 Choreographers/Companies and 300 dancers.
