Zara Goes Toxic Free

By:

Last week, Greenpeace published a report on the hazardous chemicals clothing companies use to manufacture many products.  Zara was one of the companies mentioned in the report along with Levi's and Armani.  However, Zara seemed to be the worst offender.

70% of the clothing Greenpeace tested at Zara showed traces of hazardous chemicals.  These chemicals, when released into the environment, are potentially cancer causing.  Not something you want to hear about a retailer!

At the time of the study, Zara made no comment.  Thankfully, they are rethinking that decision.  According to a release put out by Greenpeace, Zara has committed to “eliminating all releases of hazardous chemicals throughout its entire supply chain and products by 2020.”

“Greenpeace welcomes Zara’s commitment to toxic-free fashion,” said Greenpeace Toxics Campaigner, John Deans. “This commitment from the worlds largest fashion retailer shows that fashion without pollution is possible. There is no reason that other brands can’t meet the same standards.”

Hopefully other brands will follow suit making shopping safe once again.
