The New Museum is proud to announce the lineup for the second season of Propositions, a public forum that considers ideas in progress. This season, Sharon Hayes, Young Jean Lee, Chus Martinez, Danh Vo, Gabi Ngcobo, Doug Ashford, and Byron Kim each introduce a topic of current investigation in their own artistic or intellectual practice. Over the course of a two-day seminar, developing ideas are introduced, researched, and discussed to propel them forward in unique ways. Propositions seminars offer the public a chance to witness the ways in which artists research and pursue ideas. At the same time, it offers artists and cultural thinkers the chance to articulate latent ideas in public and to use audience feedback for the development of these ideas. The series is organized by Eungie Joo, Keith Haring Director and Curator of Education and Public Programs at the New Museum.

"A Proposition by Sharon Hayes: Beyond the Moon is LESBOS and other tales of queer time" featured special guest Pauline Boudry in October. At the New Museum, they discussed anachronism, temporal displacement, and transtemporality as embodiments of queer subjectivity in relation to current social, cultural, and political landscapes. In November, "A Proposition by Young Jean Lee: A Collaboration with the Audience"featured special guest Justin Bond. Lee used the occasion to solicit feedback on ideas she was pursuing while workshopping her performance in progress UNTITLED FEMINIST MULTIMEDIA TECHNOLOGY SHOW, which will be presented at the New Museum from December 16-19.

Chus Martinez, chief curator at Museu d'Art Contemporani in Barcelona (MACBA),willlead the next seminar on Friday, January 28, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, January 29, at 2 p.m. "A Proposition by Chus Martinez: aren't we living in a world where headless men only desire decapitated women?"will explore the notion of nonsense, or the wisdom of uncertainty. Nonsense reflects the need to produce osmosis between knowledge of very different natures. It aims towards the generation of communicative forms of meaning as the key to future discoveries. The filmmaker Albert Serra (Crespia, the Film not the Village; Honour of the Knights; Bird Song) will join Martinez on January 29, at 2 p.m. to further investigate ideas of nonsense.
