To commemorate the 10th anniversary of those lost on September 11, 2001, the Young People's Chorus of New York CityTM will give four free New York City performances as part of the worldwide 9/11 memorials beginning Friday, September 9. The schedule is as follows:
Friday, September 9, 4:00 p.m.The Young People's Chorus of New York City will lead an outdoor congregation of all good people coming together in peace and unity to sing "Give Us Hope" by composer Jim Papoulis at the Merchant's Gate entrance to Central Park at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 9, as part of the September Concert Foundation's four days of 9/11 memorials to those lost 10 years ago on September 11, 2001. The September Concert Foundation encourages as many people as possible to sing the song with YPC at that time or any other time during the four-day commemoration period.
To prepare for the performances of "Give Us Hope," YPC Artistic Director Francisco J. Núñez and New York Choral Society conductor John Daly Goodwin have collaborated on several videos that teach soprano, alto, tenor, and bass parts for the song.
Friday, September 9, at 8:30 p.m. Trinity Church, 74 Trinity Place - Free Concert
The Young People's Chorus of New York City conducted by Francisco J. Núñez will be joined by The Trinity Choir, The New York City Master Chorale, The Copley Singers from Boston, The Bethlehem Bach Choir of Pennsylvania, and The Washington Chorus. The program, which opens with Durufle's Ubi Caritas, will also include Faure's Requiem, Amazing Grace, three movements from the Brahms Requiem, and Dona Nobis Pacem from Bach's B minor Mass, among others.
Sunday, September 11, 7:00 p.m. St. Patrick's Cathedral - Fifth Avenue at 50th Street - Free Concert
Francisco J. Núñez and the Young People's Chorus of New York City will return to St. Patrick's Cathedral for a special 10th anniversary memorial concert as part of the cathedral's annual 9/11 commemorations. YPC will be joined by the New York Choral Society conducted by John Daly Goodwin and the Cathedral Choir of St. Patrick conducted by Dr. Jennifer Pascual.The Young People's Chorus of New York CityTM provides children from all ethnic, religious, and economic backgrounds with its unique program of music education and choral performance, encouraging the fulfillment of each child's life potential, while creating a global model of artistic excellence and harmony.The September Concert Foundation,a public charity, was established in 2002 as a small, local grassroots effort and has steadily evolved to be an event of global proportion with a mission to promote global peace.
