World Premiere Of TO CATCH A FOX: A New Hip Hop Musical Plays Tribeca Performing Arts Center Image

FAITH-HOPE-LOVE! This musical was inspired by love of theatre, music, classic story-telling hip-hop, Commedia dell'arte, and Shakespeare. Despite the characters battle to find and define love, it is evidently seen that love is a constant work in progress! Story-telling rap is our musical vehicle which heightens the language of To Catch a Fox and allows for the poetic flow to exist. The Blaxploitation era is the backdrop that easily fits with the stock characters of Commedia dell'arte while giving a modern flair. The boastfulness of the time period is reflected in all cultures represented in the Bronx, New York. We see two strong figures learn to become one, amidst society's precontrived idea of what a woman should be to a man. In today's society we have independent women who continually have to fight to be heard, gain equal pay or be believed when mistreated. It will be a better world when a strong independent woman is not seen in a bad light. This play is dedicated to the memory of women who have helped to make this world a better place. - Charles Anthony Burks
