World Premiere BOHEMIAN LIGHTS to Play HERE, Begin. 11/7
Live Source - a multidisciplinary performance ensemble - presents the one-of-a-kind; interdisciplinary theatre piece BOHEMIAN LIGHTS - a world-premiere adaptation for the stage of Ramón Valle-Inclán's "Luces de Bohemia," adapted by Live Source with Fernando Gonzalez. Preview performances of BOHEMIAN LIGHTS begin November 7 prior to an official press opening of November 9 at HERE (145 Sixth Avenue) in Manhattan. BOHEMIAN LIGHTS is the story of Max Estrella, a blind poet, on the last night of his life. In the streets of Madrid, the city is self-destructing, the country on the verge of revolution. Through a groundbreaking integration of film with live theatre, BOHEMIAN LIGHTS unravels a dark whirlwind satire of political Spain and her starving artists. This production represents not only the world premiere of a new adaptation of Ramón Valle-Inclán's masterwork "Luces de Bohemia," but also the English-language U.S. premiere, and only the second ever U.S. production in any capacity.
The cast of BOHEMIAN LIGHTS will feature Pedro Almeida, Daniel Capote, Jesse Friedman, Timothy Mele, Jorge Morales-Picó, Gerianne Pérez, and Scheherazade Quiroga.
Directed by Tyler Mercer, the production and design team for BOHEMIAN LIGHTS is José Rivera Jr. (Choreographer), Fernando Gonzalez (Dramaturgy and Supertitles), David Baloche (Film Cinematography), Neil Quillen (Original Music), Jonathan Cottle (Set Designer), Michelle Persoff (Costume Designer), Joanna Emmott (Lighting Designer), Mark Costello (Video), Katie Falter (Stage Manager) and Josh Shain (Production Manager).
This production is a part of SubletSeries@HERE, HERE's curated rental program, which provides artists with subsidized space and equipment, as well as technical support.
Live Source is a not-for-profit group of theatre and film artists from New York City. Formed in 2011 to challenge the ways multidisciplinary theatre is created, the group uses both classic and bold original plays to unearth contemporary themes, drawing from a blend of styles, stories, and live sources. With innovative design and technology in constant play with highly stylized performances, Live Source audiences engage with daring new theatre. Past Live Source productions include: a mixed-media re-imaging of MACBETH (2012); WE ARE LIVE (Access Theater, 2012); and THE JUMP (Fourth Arts Block, 2013). Live Source will premiere THE INCREDIBLE FOX SISTERS by Jaclyn Backhaus in the Fall of 2015.
Scheduled November 7 through November 23, BOHEMIAN LIGHTS will have a performance schedule of Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7pm, Sundays at 2pm at HERE (145 Sixth Avenue, enter on Dominick, 1 block south of Spring).
