The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center proudly presents an evening with composer and lyricist William Finn, whose quirky, off-beat musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, has ascended from the ranks to conquer Broadway by recently garnering six Tony Award nominations, including nominations for Best Musical and Best Original Score. The event will be hosted by nightlife and radio personality Scott Nevins, and will feature performances from the show, along with a discussion about the experience of bringing this former underground hit to the very top of the Broadway heap.

Finn is perhaps best known for his groundbreaking gay-themed musical Falsettos, and he continues to explore LGBT themes in this work. One of the young contestants in Spelling Bee sings of the neuroses caused by trying to live up to her two gay fathers' very high expectations.

This event promises to further solidify the ongoing affair between the LGBT community and the best that musical theatre has to offer. Plan to be a part of it, at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center, 208 W. 13th Street, New York City, on Monday evening, May 23, 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for Center members and $15 for general admission, and may be purchased in advance by visiting www.gaycenter.org or calling 212.620.7310, ext. 274.

Established in 1983, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center is the largest lesbian and gay community center organization on the East Coast. More than 6,000 people visit the Center weekly and 300 groups meet there.
