WFUV, New York (90.7 FM/wfuv.org), WFUV has had another successful year, with the News and Sports Departments earning 21 awards from both New York and national organizations so far in 2017 (with more to come). In some of the of the awards categories WFUV's student journalists competed against professional journalists from major news organizations.

WFUV News has received recognition from organizations including the New York State Associated Press, Alliance for Women in Media Foundation Gracie Awards, and Deadline Club (New York City Chapter of Society of Professional Journalists). Notable were Fordham junior Kacie Candela's First Place for News Series from the New York State AP and 2017 Fordham graduate Rebecca Lewis' Gracie Award for Outstanding Podcast. News & Public Affairs Director George Bodarky earned recognition for his Cityscape features and was honored with the prestigious Art Athens General Excellence of Individual Reporting award by the New York State AP. Assistant News & Public Affairs Director Robin Shannon also took third place from the New York State AP in the Newscast category.

Sports Department awards have come from the New York State Associated Press, New York Press Club, New York State Broadcasters Association, and Garden State Journalists. Current students Dan Bradley and Raffaele Elia and recent Fordham graduates Drew Casey, Sabrina Sitton, Corey Miller, David Balick, and Christian Goewey were all recognized for their work. One particularly gratifying award was Best Sports News (Radio) from the New York Press Club for "One on One Remembers Muhammed Ali," which (with contributions from current and recently graduated students Dan Bradley, Tom Terzulli, Pat Costello, James Corrigan, Jonah Haskell, and Matt Breen) was produced in three hours and aired on June 4, 2016, just one day after the boxing legend died.

WFUV's Strike a Chord public service campaigns have also been honored. Recent Fordham graduate Blaine Kaniewski won the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation Gracie Award for Outstanding Interview Feature for "Veterans Returning Home" and also accepted the New York State Broadcasters Association's Serving New York Award with News Director George Bodarky, Assistant News Director Robin Shannon, and WFUV Community Advisory Board Chair Suzanne McGillicuddy.

News & Public Affairs Director George Bodarky commented, "I can't be any prouder of the work produced by the WFUV News and Sports Departments. At a time when journalism is under fire and we continue to be bombarded with fake news on social media and other channels, it's enormously rewarding to be among those honored for quality, fact-based journalism that's making a difference in the communities we serve."
