Rita Houston was honored as the Music Director of the Year for non-commercial stations on August 11 at the Triple A Summit sponsored by FMQB, a radio trade publication, in Boulder, Colorado. "Triple A" is short for Adult Album Alternative as a radio format; WFUV calls it Rock and Roots Radio.

Houston, who also hosts The Whole Wide World with Rita Houston on Fridays from 7-10 p.m., has been music director at WFUV since 1994. She was previously named Music Director of the Year at the Triple A Summit in 2003 and Air Personality of the Year in 2004. Long a leading tastemaker, Houston has recently championed artists such as like Mumford & Sons, The Head and The Heart, Dawes, Alabama Shakes, and Gary Clark Jr., who have enjoyed national success.

"It's gratifying, of course, to get recognition from my peers," said Houston, "but it's even more gratifying to have the station's special rapport with these great musicians recognized."
