WANG BING: THREE PORTRAITS Exhibition to Open This Month at CCA Wattis Insititute

By:

"Wang Bing: Three Portraits" exhibition will open February 23, 2016 with a reception from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts.

Details are what make humans human. The slight intonation that gives emphasis to one word over another. The tightened jaw that accompanies impatience. The compliment disguised as a question. The hand gestures. The hesitations.

Film has the time to see the details. A film can linger, wait, and be patient. Wang Bing's films are about the details, how they accumulate, and how they come to determine entire lives and tell the story of entire cultures and entire ideologies. His work points to how the minutiae of daily routines can be the building blocks of life itself.

An accompanying film program is curated by Lucy Raven.

Wang Bing: Three Portraits is co-curated by Anthony Huberman and Jamie Stevens and has been made possible thanks to the generous support of an anonymous donor. Additional thanks to Galerie Chantal Crousel.

This exhibition is on view from February 23 to April 9, 2016 at CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, 360 Kansas Street, San Francisco, CA. For more information, visit www.wattis.org.
