Quote of the Day: This Monday, September 22, was FIDDLER ON THE ROOF's 50th anniversary, and to mark the occasion, here are some words from lyricist Sheldon Harnick on director Jerome Robbins...
"...when we gave [Robbins] the opportunity to direct Fiddler, he said, 'I want to put that culture back on stage. I want to give it a theatrical life of another 25 years.' He was being modest, because now it's almost 50 years and it's still going strong. But he was a man obsessed with restoring that culture. He did enormous research. I think [Robbins], more than anyone else, is responsible for the success that Fiddler's had." -- Sheldon Harnick in an interview with NPR
What we're looking forward to reading: Jennifer Ashley Tepper's THE UNTOLD STORIES OF BROADWAY, Volume 2, out November 18! The second book in this multivolume collection examines eight Broadway theaters and over 70 years of theatrical history. Theatre nerddom FTW!
Video of the Day: In honor of the show's Melbourne debut, watch scenes from off-Broadway's 2012 revival of CARRIE: THE MUSICAL!
And finally, a Happy Birthday shout-out to Jayne Houdyshell, who turns 61 today!
