International opera star Deborah Voigt will kick off New York Theatre Workshop's 25th Anniversary season on Monday, February 12, 2007, when she presents A Voigt Valentine, an intimate cabaret performance at the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse at Lincoln Center.

The acclaimed dramatic soprano, who is a member of New York Theatre Workshop's Board of Trustees, will depart from her standard opera repertoire in this special performance, where she will regale the audience with her favorite songs -- and some anniversary surprises.

Lauded as one of the world's most outstanding dramatic sopranos, Deborah Voigt received rave reviews for her performances this past fall in Salome at The Lyric Opera of Chicago, and is in the midst of a busy and wide-ranging season.  Highlights of upcoming appearances include singing the title role in the Metropolitan Opera's new production of Strauss's Die Ägyptische Helena (The Egyptian Helen), which is being mounted expressly for Ms. Voigt in March 2007; an extensive recital tour (including a performance at Los Angeles Opera in January and a return to New York's Carnegie Hall in May); concert performances of Strauss's Salome with the National Symphony Orchestra, performances with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Boston Symphony Orchestra; and the February 12th benefit concert in February celebrating NYTW's 25th anniversary. On Sunday, January 28, Voigt will be honored as a recipient of a 2006 Opera News award.

The February 12th performance will mark Voigt's second benefit concert for New York Theatre Workshop.

For her repeat NYTW appearance, Voigt will be accompanied by pianist Brian Zeger and will sing classical works by Giuseppe Verdi, Ottorino Respighi and Richard Strauss, as well as more contemporary pieces by Sir Noel Coward and New York composers John Bucchino and Ricky Ian Gordon.  In addition, she will perform a selection of Leonard Bernstein songs, including the more traditional "When My Soul Touches Yours" and what is considered an anti-war anthem, "So Pretty," as well as two recently published works which have not been sung frequently in public.

"I'm very excited to have the opportunity to perform a selection of my favorite songs, from some of our most beloved composers as well as modern songwriters," stated Ms. Voigt.  "It's not often that an artist gets the chance to sing in such an intimate environment, and performing in support of New York Theatre Workshop only adds to my enthusiasm."

Proceeds from the evening will benefit New York Theatre Workshop, which was founded by Stephen Graham and is a leading voice in Off-Broadway and in the greater New York and interNational Theatre communities.  The mission of NYTW is to provoke, produce and cultivate the work of artists whose work and vision inspire and challenge all of us. www.nytw.org or by emailing voigtvalentine@nytw.org.  For more information, please call SimpatiCo.
