Village Playwrights Announce Four Week Intensive Playwriting Workshop

Attend the Village Playwrights' 4 Week Intensive Playwriting Workshop and learn the techniques for writing a compelling play and hone your skills in a LGBTQ friendly environment.

Join in May 3, 10, 17 and 24, 2018 from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm in NYC.

Taught by Drew Sachs, the Village Playwrights' 4 Week Intensive Playwriting Workshop will focus on writing a well-made 10 minute play. Among other topics, play structure, identifying the major dramatic question, and plot driven versus character driven plays will be discussed. Published works and artistic philosophies will be analyzed and compared. Set in a master class environment, playwrights are expected to bring in their works in progress to be read aloud and workshopped by the group. Participants will complete a 10 minute play through writing exercises which will be constructively criticized. This play will be eligible to be showcased at a Village Playwrights meeting.

Drew Sachs received his MFA in Dramatic Writing from Carnegie Mellon University. He was a semi-finalist at the Eugene O'Neill Conference with his works I AM NOT BREAKFAST and HADRIAN'S FAVORITE. His short play CHRIS SQUARED was part of the Boston Theater Marathon IX. Other productions of his works include ANYA, A BOROUGH PARK ANTIGONE and THE KNOCK (both produced by The Drilling CompaNY), STABBING O.J. (Queens College), and THE WHY which tells of the aftermath that ensued after the publication of Shirley Jackson's short story "The Lottery" (Garrison, NY). His latest work FOUND IN TRANSLATION explores the relationship between writers Saul Bellow and I.B. Singer. His play WHO ARE YOU DANCING WITH NOW received honorable mention at the Kennedy Center Play Writing Competition. As an instructor, Drew has taught playwriting at Carnegie Mellon University, Adelphi University, Roundabout Theatre Company's Teaching Artist Program and iDEAS. Drew was the co-literary manager for Epiphany Theater. Company and served on the script selection committee for The Bronx Council of the Arts. He currently facilitates a playwright's intensive group at Polaris North, a theater cooperative, and was a member of the playwrights group at Abingdon Theater.
