Unitard UNITARD Comedy Trio to Perform Two Shows at Red Eye
Unitard is made up of the combined talents of Mike Albo, Nora Burns, and David Ilku.
Comedy trio UNITARD will continue their 25th Anniversary season with two performances of their show “Above the Fruited Plain” at Red Eye on Wednesday, May 27 and Saturday, June 13, both at 8:00 PM. For several generations, Unitard – made up of the combined talents of Mike Albo, Nora Burns, and David Ilku – has been intriguing and inconveniencing audiences across the country with its fiery comic take on society, politics and social norms.
Unitard, New York City’s wildly twisted, fabulous (and maybe oldest) comedy group, have performed coast to coast as well as in Canada. Formed in 2000, the comedy trio got their start at the famous, now-defunct nightspot Fez where many performers, including Murray Hill, Justin Vivian Bond, and others gained audiences. For decades, their take-no-prisoners approach to sketch comedy has been poking fun at hypocrisy, shallowness, sanctimony from the right, left and middle — a release valve for audiences desperate for a break from the BS. Unitard has performed through five New York City mayors, six presidential administrations, countless wars, two blackouts, one devastating hurricane, the death of print media, the rise of “reality” and the eight-dollar coffee, and somehow still manage to say out loud what everyone else is thinking but afraid to utter.
Collectively and individually they have performed in venues and festivals across the US including: We’re Funny That Way: Toronto, Aspen Comedy festival, Toyota Comedy Festival, Joe’s Pub: NYC, HBO Workspace: LA, PS122: NYC, Highways: LA, SF Sketchfest: San Francisco, Andy Warhol Museum: Pittsburgh, Theater Offensive: Boston, Oberon: Harvard Square Cambridge, The Maui Cultural Center, as well as Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; Provincetown, MA; and Columbus, OH. Some of their work has been featured on CNN, Bravo, VH1, Logo TV, and Comedy Central.
