UPDATE: Derek Hough's Injuries Revealed; Could Be Off DWTS for Rest of Season
UPDATE - 12: 30 pm/ET: E! News has learned that Derek Hough could be off Dancing With the Stars for part of the season, or the whole rest of the season, and his celebrity partner, Olympian gold medal winner Nastia Liukin, might be getting a new partner.
A source has told E! that Hough has most likely broken a toe and possibly severely sprained his ankle and may have suffered ligament damage.
"I was with him until all hours of the night...Derek's an optimist," fellow dance pro Mark Ballas told E!. "He's always up and he's always bringing the people around him up. His energy is always positive."
As BWW reported yesterday, Radio City's SPRING SPECTACULAR announced on the show's official web site that Derek Hough's role of Jack will be played by Taylor Frey (Broadway's HOW TO SUCCEED, FINIAN'S RAINBOW) in today's 2 pm performance of the show due to injuries the dancer sustained on Monday evening while rehearsing for an upcoming DANCING WITH THE STARS Anniversary Special.
The performer had shared an instagram photo taken in the hospital Monday evening which showed that he may have suffered injuries to both of his feet. He captioned the photo: "Just getting home from the hospital. Not the best of news. I'm in utter disbelief." The post was later deleted.
ABC has confirmed to Zap2it.com that Hough is too injured to dance for the taping of the special set to take place today, Tuesday April 22. The network did not comment on the possibility of him dancing in future weeks of the current season with his partner, gymnast Nastia Liukin.
In the Anniversary celebration, Hough was to perform with his former celebrity partner Maria Menounos. The "Dancing With the Stars" 10th anniversary event will air April 28 on ABC and will feature performances from some of the shows most beloved couples including Witney Carson & Alfonso Ribero and Meryl Davis & Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
