Breakout LES MISERABLES movie musical star and frequent Broadway headliner Aaron Tveit talks about his unique predilection for auditioning as well as the plights of typecasting in a new interview.

Speaking in promotion of his new USA drama series GRACELAND to Backstage, Tveit reveals the tricky circumstances of TV casting and how typecasting often wins out.

"Typecasting is an interesting thing because, in a way, if you're good at something, you're going to work at that thing," Tveit says.

He continues, "In other ways, you constantly have to change people's opinion of you as one thing, especially if you want to play different roles. You have to shatter that image sometimes. I've had to do it before with stage roles, to get roles. I'm drawn to kind of darker, misfit things. I would like to, especially in film, play against type and do some heavier stuff. I'm intrigued by projects that deal with problematic people and things."

Additionally, Tveit adds that auditions are anything but arduous for the talented triple-threat. "I like auditioning! A lot of people hate it, but I like it," he says.

Tveit shares that he once had a less-than-stellar experience at an audition, though. "Once I was auditioning for a play, and I was reading a scene with another actress, who was a friend of mine," he says. "In the middle of our reading, the director says, 'Stop - what are you doing? Do something else.' I just remember being absolutely mortified. Needless to say, I did not get the role," Tveit confesses.

As for theatre plans? "There's a lot more theater work that I want to do," Tveit says.

He clarifies further, asserting that, "I'm at an interesting age, especially for musicals. There are a lot of roles for 18-, 19-, 20-year-old characters. From there, it jumps to older, kind of leading-man roles. So that hopefully will be the next group of parts that I get to play in musicals on the stage. I also want to do plays. I want to do everything."

So, what musical leading man role would you like to see Tveit take on some season soon?
