Bob Kelly, a makeup and wig artist whose work on Broadway included shows such as 1962's A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, 1970's THE ROTHSCHILDS, and 2002's GOODNIGHT, GRACIE, passed away on April 18. He was 87 years old.

Bob Kelly served in World War II, and first worked under wigmaker Ira Senz. Kelly worked on various theatre productions, as well as television and film, for more than six decades. He began his career with the Metropolitan Opera House, and later would extend his influence to nearly every facet of the arts - from film to theatre and everything in between.

In addition to designing wigs and makeup, Kelly's Manhattan shop (Bob Kelly Wig Creations, founded in 1950) helped to supply the distinct look that accompanied SOUTH PACIFIC, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, and WEST SIDE STORY, to name a few.

In 2008, Bob Kelly Wig Creations closed its doors, but Kelly himself continued lending his talent to Broadway, including the wigs worn by the ogres of SHREK.

A military burial took place today. Kelly is survived by his children: makeup artist Barbara Kelly, Tracy Abitanti, Sean Kelly, and BrenDan Kelly, as well as three grandchildren: John Mcniven, Jeannette and Joey Abitante.

A public memorial is being planned by Bob Kelly's daughter Barbara with Linda Rice and is expected to be held in a Broadway theatre.
