Today, we are taking a look at a clip from the 2008 Tony Awards and a chilling performance by the trio of Tony-winning talents that won that year's Best Actress In A Musical, Best Featured Actress and Best Featured Actor: Patti LuPone, Laura Benanti and Boyd Gaines in Arthur Laurents's lauded revival of his classic musical written with Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim, the spectacular classic GYPSY!

Perhaps no one but Patti LuPone could bring the character of Rose such ferocious intensity - both as an actress, a singer and in becoming the terrifying monster of a character before our very eyes - and for that alone she deserved a shot at the role. Yet, what she and director Laurents created was perhaps the definitive performance of what many consider to be the King Lear of musical theatre. A tall order fulfilled. This is what musical theatre acting can achieve with brilliant talent on the order of LuPone, Benanti and Gaines. And it is just as well - and powerfully - sung as it is acted. If this blistering ending to the song ala LuPone at her best doesn't give you chills I do not know what will! Perfection!

That's all for today, be sure to stay tuned to BroadwayWorld everyday until Tony Award Sunday for all Tony Award-related news, articles, interviews and digital media. 'Til tomorrow...
