Tony Orlando Is Steppin? Out To The St. George Theatre For A Benefit Concert 9/10

Tony Orlando is steppin' out to the St. George Theatre as he takes the stage to perform in a benefit concert for the theatre on September 10th.

Best known for the mammoth hit "Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Ole Oak Tree", Tony Orlando entered the music business at the age of 16 and had his first hit with "Halfway to Paradise", written for him by Carole King who also authored the Top 20 follow-up, "Bless You".

Orlando later routed his musical career to the non-performance side and in 1967 was tapped by Columbia Records to head their publishing division, April-Blackwood Music. Three years later, Orlando was coaxed into putting his voice on a demo record for a song titled "Candida", which was released under the name of the record promotion director's daughter, Dawn. Orlando forgot all about the demo until receiving a call that "Candida" was climbing the charts, eventually the song ended up in the #1 position. He followed up "Candida" with "Knock Three Times". The song not only became #1, it was the top song of 1971, selling over six million copies worldwide.

Realizing it was probably safe to give up his career at the record label, Orlando decided to jump full force into what was already a meteoric rise to the top. Along with Telma Hopkins and Joyce Vincent Wilson, Tony Orlando and Dawn became an international sensation. In 1973, Orlando recorded "Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Ole Oak Tree". The song went to #1 and remained there for a year, becoming his theme song and growing into an American anthem of hope and homecoming, reunion and renewal as yellow ribbons welcomed home returning war heroes.

Other Orlando hits include: "Sweet Gypsy Rose", "He Don't Love You", "Who's In The Strawberry Patch With Sally", "Cupid", "Steppin' Out (Gonna Boogie Tonight)" and "Mornin' Beautiful". In addition, Orlando has had a television variety show, appeared in movies and on Broadway and in 1993, he opened his own theater in Branson, Missouri.
