Tom Dickins Announces USA Tour Dates

By:

It's only a third way through Melbourne Fringe but Tom Dickins is not waiting to make a name for himself. Today he announced dates for a United States tour with his hit cabaret ‘Where Was I?', incorporating a joint billing performance with the Dresden Dolls' Amanda Palmer.

Starting in Los Angeles on 15 Dec, Tom and accompanist Jennifer Kingwell will perform in San Francisco on 17 Dec, Seattle on 19 Dec, and in New York's famous cabaret venue "Don't Tell Mama" on 21 and 22 Dec.

Tom will then hit Boston for the performance with Amanda Palmer which will also be webcast live.

Tom Dickins' career is fast on the rise after winning one of Australia's top awards given to emerging cabaret performers, the prestigious annual ‘Under Our Wing Award'. Previous winners have included Tim Minchin and Sammy J.

Amanda Palmer became a fan early in his career, writing in 2007 that Tom has "the velvety yet bittersweet voice of an angel, only recently fallen from grace."

Tom's exciting new show runs for the full three weeks of the Melbourne Fringe Festival. "Where Was I?" is the story of Dickins' running, tripping and tumbling journey around the world in a crazed search for identity, love, sex and purpose.

The cabaret features "deliciously dark original songs that claw into the brain and refuse to let go" (ArtsHub) along with some very familiar songs played in very unfamiliar ways - such as an upbeat, cheerleader version of "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails.

While it is only a third way through its season, "Where Was I?" is already garnering rave reviews. One of the world's most authoritive experts on cabaret, Stu Hamstra of Cabaret Hotline based in New York (www.svhamstra.com) describes it as a "Must See" and, locally, Buzz Cuts reviewer Regan Brantley wrote "Incredibly entertaining ... Tom Dickins has written a script with real sincerity".
