Schreck is best known as the creator and star of the widely acclaimed masterpiece What the Constitution Means to Me. "We are deeply privileged to have presented Heidi Schreck with our Standing Ovation Award," said Vicky Hansen, Executive Director of the nonprofit Theater Masters, "Heidi crafts living, breathing pieces of art that challenge audiences to look closer at our history and ourselves. Words Of Recognition: Read on for a deeper look at Heidi's artistry and impact, we have included some of the toasts from June 1st celebration and a series of heartfelt testimonials from longtime collaborators and friends of Heidi.

'Heidi became one of most sought-after actors in the downtown new play world, a sneaky, goldmine combination: beauty tempered by everywoman accessibility, deft chiseling of language and emotional depth, comic chops, intellectual rigor, taste and precision...Her writing is as her acting: deft, deep, precise, sad, funny, and a stealthy exploration and inversion of power and powerlessness, and how women navigate this.' - Maria Striar, Artistic Director Clubbed Thumb

'Heidi brings all of herself to everything she writes and performs in, and audiences are riveted by that authenticity. She grew up on stage, stayed there, and, if we are all lucky enough, she will stay there forever.' - Jordan Harrison, Playwright

'To be in the room with Heidi is to feel how fundamental art is to this life. To feel the connection between this normal life and the stars. She's got incredible taste combined with kindness and the courage to defend inspiration from judgment. Her art pushes against the contractive forces of fear and allows the unformed idea or littlest dream to exist.' - Oliver Butler , World Premiere Director "What the Constitution Means to Me"

'Heidi has a wild instinct for where a piece of theater or a book or movie will live in the culture and how to fool us into a next level of compassion by tightening the strings of plot or letting something unravel right in front of us, letting us in on the real messy work of truth telling.' - Deirdre O'Connell, Stage & Screen Actor.
