The Tank Presents THE AMAZING STORY MACHINE By Doppelskope

In 2017 Doppelskope brought its puppet musical about climate change (GRUFF!) to NYC. Now, with the support of a Family Grant from the Jim Henson Foundation, Doppelskope is premiering its newest and most innovative puppet show yet at The Tank in midtown west.

The Amazing Story Machine is about the family Grimm, who are on the verge of presenting their amazing new Story Machine, which runs on steam and dreams and promises to revolutionize how stories are told and how people connect. When their fabulous contraption malfunctions, the Grimms have to invent a new way of storytelling on the spot, using puppets and help from the audience.

The show features multiple styles of puppetry, including tabletop puppetry, object theatre, and shadow puppetry, as well as live music, projections, and physical comedy. Over the course of the show, the Grimms tell some of their favorite fairy tales, including The Hare and the Hedgehog, Hansel and Gretel, and The Brave Little Tailor.

Writers/directors/founders Ora Fruchter and Christopher Scheer perform in The Amazing Story Machine along with company members Caroline Lux and Eleonore Weill.

The Tank is a nonprofit arts presenter serving emerging artists engaged in the pursuit of new ideas and forms of expression. They serve over 2,000 artists every year in over 800 performances from their home on 36th Street, and work across all disciplines, including theater, comedy, dance, film, music, public affairs, and storytelling. Their goal is to foster an environment of inclusiveness and remove the burden of cost from the creation of new work for artists launching their careers and experimenting within their art form. The heart of their services is providing free performance space in our 98 seat proscenium and 56-seat black box that they operate in Manhattan, and they also offer a suite of other services such as free rehearsal space, promotional support, artist fees, and much more. They keep ticket prices affordable and view their work as democratic, opening up both the creation and attendance of the arts to all. Since its founding in 2003, artists who have come through The Tank include Alex Timbers, Amy Herzog, Lucy Alibar, Mike Daisey, Reggie Watts, Kyle Abraham, Andrew Bujalski, We Are Scientists, and tens of thousands of others. www.thetanknyc.org
