The New Group is proud to present Conceiving The Kid: Adapting A Book Into A Musical as the next offering in its Sunday evening Dark Nights Series. This one-night-only special event takes place Sunday, November 8 at 8:00 PM.

Recently honored with the 2009 BMI Foundation Jerry Bock Award for Best New Musical, the creative team behind The New Group's spring production The Kid will discuss their collaborative process and the challenges they faced adapting renowned sex columnist Dan Savage's memoir The Kid: What Happened After My Boyfriend and I Decided to Get Pregnant into a new musical. Selections from Savage's memoir will be read, and Jack Lechner (lyrics), Andy Monroe (music) and Michael Zam (book) will treat the audience to a sneak preview of their work performed by special guests including Susan Blackwell, Jeannine Frumess, Brooke Sunny Moriber, Daniel Reichard and Lucas Steele. The Kid, directed by New Group Artistic Director Scott Elliott, will be performed at the third show in The New Group's 2009-2010 mainstage season.

The Dark Nights Series features cultural conversations and readings designed to create a dialogue between New Group artists and their audience. This series debuted at The New Group last January with the sold-out "O'Neill and His Electra," an evening of conversation with Tony Kushner, Arthur and Barbara Gelb and Zoe Caldwell and continued with "Eric Bogosian in Scenes from DRACULA" which was presented in March 2009.
Tickets are $20 and may be arranged through Ticket Central at www.ticketcentral.com or (212) 279-4200. This event is free to New Group subscribers. For more information, visit www.thenewgroup.org.
