The Little Orchestra Society Presents WEST SIDE STORY AND OTHER MUSIC OF THE AMERICAS, 2/4
The Little Orchestra Society presents West Side Story and Other Music of the Americas on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 11 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall. Choreographer Alee Reed and the kids of the Dancing Classrooms Youth Dance Company (DCYDC), a project of American Ballroom Theater (internationally known through the films Mad Hot Ballroom and Taking the Lead), join the Orchestra and guest conductor Gerald Steichen as they celebrate the dance music of North and South America. Through the music of Leonard Bernstein, Alberto Ginastera and Aaron Copland, children can dance along from their seats with the DCYDC and see how music and dance have gone hand-in-hand for centuries – how music inspires us to dance, and dance can inspire us to make music.
Performances are at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall (65th St. and Broadway). Single tickets are available for $15 (rear balcony/rear orchestra) through $50 (prime seating) by calling 212/971-9500 or at littleorchestra.org.
Dance with Our Stars, a Family Benefit to be held at the American Folk Art Museum will follow the 1:00pm performance. Call Carrie Edmundson at 212.971.9500 ext 102 for tickets and/or more information about this event.
Every note and every word of the 2011-2012 season is dedicated to the memory of Dino Anagnost, who led The Little Orchestra Society through 32 seasons of joyful music making.
