The Greg Ruvolo Big Band Collective Set for 'Jazz in the Afternoon' Holiday Benefit

The Greg Ruvolo Big Band Collective returns to Local 802 for "A Big Band Holiday" benefit concert on Thursday, December 14, at 5 p.m.

Trumpeter and commercial recording artist Greg Ruvolo, who has toured with Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, and the big bands of Woody Herman, Gerry Mulligan and Louis Bellson brings his Big Band Collective back to Local 802's Club Room for a special holiday performance!

The Greg Ruvolo Big Band Collective performance will feature an exciting blend of selections from the Great American Songbook, jazz standards, and holiday compositions in the modern Big Band style. The Big Band Collective boasts some impressive talent in addition to Ruvolo; the groups' live and session resumés include playing in the Saturday Night Live band, backing Steely Dan, and playing in the big bands of titans like Buddy Rich, Thad Jones, Mel Lewis and Count Basie.

The Local 802 "Club Room" is located at 322 West 48th Street, between 9th and 10th Avenues, First Floor.

Jazz in the Afternoon is a vibrant, informal sessions series during which popular jazz club musicians and players from Broadway, television/film and the classical orchestras at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall invite audiences to join the fun for free as they hone their musical chops. Go behind the scenes as the City's best players sharpen their skills, playing through beloved charts, improvising and gleefully exploring new compositions as well as new approaches to old favorites. While there is no charge for admission, donations of any amount are accepted to benefit the NYC Musician's Emergency Relief Fund of American Federation of Musicians Local 802, which helps musicians in times of crisis. Donations can be made in cash or by check or credit card. Visit local802erf.org/jazz-in-the-afternoon for more information.
