The Beckhams Donate Clothes to Red Cross Store in London

By:

A local British Red Cross store received a huge crowd of shoppers on Friday after David and Victoria Beckham donated pieces of their stylish wardrobe to the store to aid victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

The British Red Cross shop in Kensington and Chelsea had lines of customers outside its doors well before they opened. And by 5pm all of the items donated by the Beckhams had sold out.

Items included in their donation included dresses, tops, suits and shoes from top designers like Jimmy Choo and Dolce & Gabbana. Organizers hoped that the Beckham donations would raise 500,000 pounds ($805,605) for the Disasters Emergency Committee, which is an alliance of 14 charities working together to provide aid to the devastated region.

Other fashion insiders doing their share to raise money for the Philippines include Threadless, which is known for selling community-designed graphic T-shirts. They are selling a shirt designed by Filipino Dan Elijah G. Fajardo with the proceeds going to Architecture for Humanity, a non-profit group that has plans to help rebuild the affected areas.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell is attempting to raise money and awareness by selling a limited-edition print of herself taken by photographer John-Paul Pietrus, who is one of her trusted collaborators and also half-Filipino. The signed pictures are 20 pounds each with the proceeds going to the Red Cross disaster fund.

Also, Josie Natori, a native Filipino designer and CFDA member, is using her website to ask people to donate to charities on the ground.
