Beginning June 1, The Alternate Side Will Air Each Weekday from 6 a.m. - Noon
The City of New York will broadcast The Alternate Side, the indie music service from Fordham University's radio station WFUV, on the non-commercial, City-owned radio station WNYE 91.5FM, beginning this June, WNYE announced today.

WNYE is part of NYC Media, the official network of the City of New York. The agreement was made between WFUV, Fordham University and the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment. Beginning June 1, WFUV will program the morning hours on 91.5FM, from 6 a.m. to noon each weekday. The revenue partnership comes at no cost to the taxpayer and expands the City's diverse radio programming already in place.

"We are so proud to announce this partnership with Fordham University," said Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment. "We support all kinds of media, and this is a great way to showcase an innovative and creative group through the City's various distribution platforms. This partnership with WFUV provides the opportunity to improve our radio content and further support workforce development in media at the same time."

"Fordham University and WFUV could not be more delighted with this arrangement," said Stephen Freedman, Ph.D., provost of the University. "With this agreement, WFUV will bring our city's rich music culture to more listeners, and WNYE will be better served with local programming from a New York-based award-winning public station."

The broadcasts, hosted by Russ Borris and Alisa Ali, will originate from WFUV's studios and be heard at 91.5FM in the New York City and metro area. Prior to this partnership, The Alternate Side had been available almost exclusively on the Web and HD Radio. It will continue to be available at thealternateside.org and 90.7FM HD3, as well as weeknights from 10 p.m. to midnight on 90.7FM.

Since its launch by WFUV in 2008, with support from The New York State Music Fund, The Alternate Side has showcased the vital and diverse indie music scene in New York City and beyond. It features artists from all over the musical landscape - from The Strokes and The Beastie Boys to PJ Harvey and Radiohead -- and champions new local bands like Yeasayer, School of Seven Bells and The Hundred in the Hands. WNYE listeners will discover new music and reconnect with favorite artists, experience one-of-a-kind in-studio interviews and performances, and get artist news, concert information and community announcements.

"The Alternate Side is all about finding and supporting new artists," said Chuck Singleton, WFUV's program director. "The more ways this programming gets out there, the better we're serving our listeners and the many talented bands we play. It's thrilling to help connect artists with the people who want to hear them."

Beyond the radio dial, The Alternate Side takes music fans even deeper into the local scene at thealternateside.org, where they will find music news and in-studio videos, produced by a team of Fordham University students. A significant part of WFUV's mission is to serve as a training ground for the broadcasters and media producers of tomorrow, including on the web and social media as writers, editors, photographers, videographers and podcasters. WFUV's full time professional staff of 30 experienced professionals mentors more than 70 students each year.
