Fashion Academy is a musical tale of finding your own voice and not being afraid to use it. Through colorful characters and lively, hip music, it imparts a powerful lesson in self-expression for tween and teen audiences.

New York, New York-February 7, 2017-Tams Witmark proudly announces that Fashion Academy, the new musical based on the hit book series by mother/daughter team Sheryl Berk and Carrie Berk, is now available for licensing.

The one-act, 60-minute show, featuring a vibrant pop/rock score by Sabrina Chap and a witty contemporary book co-written by Chap and Sheryl Berk, concerns life at The Fashion Academy of Brooklyn (FAB) Middle School, a training ground for future fashion designers. New student MacKenzie "Mickey" Williams is a social pariah and a walking "Fashion Don't" - until a major makeover transforms her into into a trendy fashionista. We follow Mickey's character as she struggles with the question, "Is gaining acceptance of others worth the price of losing myself?"

Audience members have lauded the show as "Absorbing, Delightful, Must-see, Entertaining," praising its "bouncy rhythms and clever themes." "The kids in the audience loved every minute," writes Alina Adams on showscore.com.

In 2015, the show made its world premiere in an Off-Broadway production from The Vital Theatre Company in New York. After a successful run at the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater, it transferred to The Theater at Blessed Sacrament, where it ran through 2016.

With nine diverse and dynamic roles, Fashion Academy can be presented with as few as five actors. The musical offers wonderful performance opportunities, especially for girls. Accompaniment to the score, which features ten original songs, is provided in pre-recorded performance tracks as an additional benefit!

"Seeing Fashion Academy come to life was an amazing experience," says co-writer Sheryl Berk. "It's a fun show with a powerful message about believing in oneself and finding the strength and conviction to march to your own life soundtrack. It's a great story about kid power, never giving up, and embracing the very things that make you different."

Sheryl Berk is a New York Times bestselling author and has collaborated on numerous celebrity books including Soul Surfer with Bethany Hamilton, Stages and Heart to Heart with Britney Spears, Between U and Me with Zendaya and Choosing Glee with Jenna Ushkowitz. With her 12-year-old daughter Carrie Berk, she writes the bestselling Cupcake Club book series.

Sabrina Chap is a Brooklyn-based songwriter, playwright and cabaret artist. She writes/performs for Midnight Radio Show, Soft Sirens, The Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, and Postcards from Nevermore.
