On May 15, 2025, the Covey Center for the Arts in Provo, Utah, announced that it will present the exclusive North American premiere of The Osmonds: A New Musical, the UK smash hit stage production based on the story of the world-famous Osmond family. Performances will begin March 12, 2026, with preview performances set for March 10–11.

The production will be directed by Timothy Threlfall, former Artistic Director of Seattle Civic Light Orchestra and Staff Director for Tuacahn Center for the Arts, and will feature an award-winning Utah-based creative team.

Written by Jay Osmond, the musical follows the rise of the Osmond family as they become one of the most popular singing groups of the 1970s. The show traces their journey through early television appearances on The Andy Williams Show, chart-topping hits such as “One Bad Apple,” “Yo-Yo,” and “Crazy Horses,” and their success with The Donny and Marie Show.

Since many of the Osmonds’ pivotal personal and professional moments took place in Provo, the location holds special significance for Jay Osmond.

“There are a lot of reasons why I wanted to start it here,” Jay said. “In Provo… it’s where so much in the musical happened.”

Originally produced by Royo Entertainment in London, The Osmonds: A New Musical played over 200 performances across England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. The Covey Center production will introduce an updated script and new creative direction tailored to North American audiences.

“We have an amazing creative team and a script that is one-of-a-kind,” said Covey Center Director Stephen Pullen. “The Covey is just the beginning for this show. We feel it has the potential to become a very successful national tour.”

Joining Threlfall on the creative team are choreographer Rebecca Wright-Phillips, an award-winner in the National Dance Alliance Cheerleading and Dance Competition; associate director Geoff Reynolds of the Utah Shakespeare Festival; music director Ross Boothe, COO of WarnerBoothe Entertainment; Costume Designer Nancy Cannon (The Gabby Petito Story, Lifetime); lighting designer Marianne Ohran; and set designer Nat Reed.

Threlfall’s previous stage and screen work includes Berlin (2008), a television-produced musical for which he earned an Emmy Award, a Telly Award, and a CINE Golden Eagle Award. He is also known for his work on major Tuacahn productions such as The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Wizard of Oz.

The musical will feature new set designs, powerful vocal performances, and a revised script that highlights both the triumphs and hardships of the Osmond family story.

“What I hope in my heart is that the audience will come away with a love for my family,” Jay added, “…and how you can use conflict to overcome challenges. And how important God is in your life.”

Tickets for The Osmonds: A New Musical will go on sale May 12, 2025, at CoveyCenter.org
