"CSI" writer David Rambo will write the book for "Reagan," the new one-man stage show about actor-turned-president Ronald Reagan, according to a report in Variety.  The show is being produced by David Permut and Mark Travis.

In an unorthodox strategy, Permut and Travis intend to film the show for theatrical transfer.  It is a strategy they employed with 1975 film "Give 'Em Hell Harry," also a one-man stage show about President Harry Truman, and with 1978's "Bully: An Adventure With Teddy Roosevelt," also a one-man show, both starring James Whitmore. Permut and Travis have additionally used this method of transfer with 1979's "Richard Pryor: Live in Concert."

Originally set to be written by Lionel Chetwynd last year, the producers had hoped the show would begin a 10-city run this fall. Due to the writing shift, however, they now anticipate a 2010 production tour.

For "Reagan," Permut and Travis are working in conjunction with the Reagan family.  No casting has been announced, though it is speculated that a big name actor is in talks to play the former president.

Peter Hunt, who directed these earlier works on Truman and Roosevelt plays, will direct "Reagan."

David Rambo hit the professional writing circuit in 2004 when he wrote his first script for a television show, an episode for the American crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation entitled Butterflied. Butterflied aired on January of that year and it was the highest rated TV program of the week. Rambo would then join the CSI writing team, creating episodes like Who Shot Sherlock?, Kiss-Kiss, Bye-Bye and Still Life. He is now a supervising producer of the show. In 2006, Rambo wrote "The Lady With All the Answers", a play about the life and work of "Eppie" Lederer, better known as Ann Landers. The play has been widely produced across the country. An off-Broadway production starring Judith Ivey opened October 14, 2009 at the Cherry Lane Theatre
