THE GOLDEN SMILE Comes to FRIGID New York This Week

FRIGID New York presents THE GOLDEN SMILE, written by Yaakov Bressler and directed by Joey Stamp with music by Zach Stamp. The production runs February 18th through March 5th, 2016.

After getting caught discussing violence, five mental patients face being removed from their precious Rec Room. Determined to redeem themselves, they set to put on a play about "a golden smile" to stay but pressure gets high when creative differences cause rifts between the group. What follows is hilarious, not to mention vulgar, attempts to fix their show, their teeth, and their lives.

THE GOLDEN SMILE stars Andy McCain, Sofiya Cheyenne, Jody Doo, Isaac Boorstein, Robert DiDomenico, Flynn Harne Featuring: Gavin Bazalar and David Cutler. In the band are Renee Ong, Chris Lano and Gaby Baez.

The show features designs by Rivkah Spolin, Shelly Ben-Yshay, and Carrie Pieper. On the production team are Andrew Tse, Sidney Junk, Betty Leong, JT Footman, Chavie Fleisher and Gleneara Bates.

THE GOLDEN SMILE will play Feb. 18th @ 8:50pm, Feb. 21st @ 6:50pm, Feb. 24th @ 10:30pm, March 2nd @ 7:10pm, and March 5th @ 8:20pm at The Kraine Theater (85 E 4th St, New York, NY 10003) Tickets ($15) are available at www.horseTRADE.info.

Joey Stamp's directing and Zach Stamp's music has developed the show into a historical analytic psychology thriller aimed at depicting mental health in the 1950s. Set accordingly to health standards at that time, many occurrences in this show could not (thankfully) happen today. Audiences are beckoned to grapple if characters of THE GOLDEN SMILE would be institutionalized in 2016 - further, if at all they would be considered mentally ill in 2016. The continuity and development of mental health and science in general make this topic of "relativity" an important one.

The musical elements of the show bring out a raw feel to THE GOLDEN SMILE, decidedly present in a 1950's psych ward. Perhaps reminiscent of the broken radio which sits quietly amidst the quarrelling mental patients, the imaginations of the characters' of THE GOLDEN SMILE bring their story to life so much so that the band becomes part of the set. Unapologetic in his style, Zach Stamp's music completes the feel of the show.
